Day 16: Canada Ends the Games Sliding to a Bronze Medal

Canada finished the Olympics with three events on the schedule. One of which included a bronze medal, as Canada finishes on a high note.


After being postponed to the final day of competition, alpine skiing concluded with the Mixed Parallel Team. Erin Mielzynski, Cassidy Gray, Erik Read and Trevor Philp made up the Canadian team. The team could not get past the ⅛ finals, which was the first round against Slovenia.


In cross country skiing, three Canadian competed in the Women’s 30km Freestyle. Cendrine Browne was the top Canadian finishing 16th. Katherine Stewart-Jones Dahria Beatty and Laura Leclair finish 30th, 39th and 51st.


Canada won its final medal on the day, finishing with 26 medals. In the 4-Man Bobsleigh the Canadian team, piloted by Justin Kripps with Ryan Sommer, Cam Stones and Ben Coakwell, held on to third place the entire way and earned a bronze medal, 0.06 second ahead of the third German sled. The Canadians managed to break up the potential German podium sweep.


Canada’s second team piloted by Chris Spring finished in ninth while the third sled piloted by Taylor Austin, finished 23rd.


Canada concluded the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games with four gold, eight silver and 14 bronze medals.


The closing ceremony will take place to officially close out the games. Canada has named Long Track Speed Skater Isabelle Weidemannas the closing ceremony flag bearer as she leaves Beijing with a medal of every colour.
