Day 7 is one for the most part that Canada would like to forget.
In Women’s Skeleton, Mirela Rahneva was first with a track record after the first run. However, her second run did not help her. She struggled with it and is now currently sitting in ninth place, 0.83 seconds back of the lead.
Both Brad Gushue and Jennifer Jones lose their first curling match of the Round Robin. Gushue and his squad suffered a 5-3 loss over Switzerland. After going undefeated in 2014, Jones loses her first career Olympic match as her team was defeated by 8-5 Japan.
After being frustrated with his result in the 5000m, Long Track Speed Skater Ted-Jan Bloemen did not fare any better in the 10000m. The defending gold medalist finished in eight while teammate Graeme Fish finished ahead of him in sixth.
The lone bright spot of the day was in Women’s Hockey. Canada wins their quarterfinal matchup 11-0 against Sweden. Brianne Jenner, her second of the Beijing Games and Sarah Fillier each with a hat-trick in the game. Sarah Nurse and Marie-Philip Poulin each had four assists. Canada has nine of the top-10 leading scorers.
On Day 8:
The men's and women’s curling teams find themselves in a matchup against Sweden.
After Meryeta O’Dine won bronze and Eliot Grondin won silver, the duo will team up in Mixed Team Snowboard Cross.
It will be Canada and the US in hockey once again. This time is on the men’s side.
In Long Track Speed Skating, The Women’s Team Pursuit starts with the quarterfinal and after that, the Men’s 500m.
No Virtue and Moir anymore for Canada, Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier look for the podium as the Ice Dance competition begins for the Figure Skaters.
Finally, Mirela Rahneva looks to make up some ground in her final two runs.
